About
Atom is an open-source, hackable text editor for developers introduced by GitHub in 2011. It was designed to be deeply customizable while remaining easy to use and served as a foundation for the Electron framework. GitHub announced the sunset and archiving of Atom and all repositories under the Atom organization with an official archive date of December 15, 2022; maintenance and security updates ceased and some binaries and services (package management, Teletype, certain downloads) were deprecated. The Atom project was archived to allow GitHub to focus on cloud-based developer tooling such as Visual Studio Code and GitHub Codespaces.
