About
BRL-CAD is an open-source, cross-platform solid modeling system that provides interactive geometry editing, high-performance ray-tracing for rendering and geometric analysis, a benchmarking suite, and geometry libraries for developers. Originating from work begun in 1979 at the U.S. Army Ballistic Research Laboratory and first released publicly in 1984, BRL-CAD became an open-source project in 2004. It is used for verification, validation and engineering analysis (including long-standing use by the U.S. military for vulnerability and lethality analysis), and is distributed in source and binary form for many operating systems.
