About
FunkFeuer is an open, non-commercial, community-driven wireless network initiative in Austria that builds and operates decentralized roof-top mesh networks to provide free communication and internet access. Volunteers set up and maintain nodes following peer-to-peer principles (Pico Peering Agreement); nodes connect hierarchically-less to form a resilient wireless network, with some nodes providing gateways to the global Internet. FunkFeuer promotes DIY networking, knowledge sharing, and local initiatives (for example in Vienna, Graz and Wels) to expand access and bridge digital divides.
