About GeoPandas
GeoPandas is an open source project that simplifies working with geospatial data in Python. It extends the pandas library to support spatial operations on geometric types, leveraging shapely for geometric operations, pyogrio for file access, and matplotlib for plotting. GeoPandas combines the data handling capabilities of pandas with the geometric operations of shapely, providing a high-level interface for geospatial analysis. It enables users to perform spatial operations in Python that would otherwise require specialized spatial databases such as PostGIS.
