About GEW

The Gewerkschaft Erziehung und Wissenschaft (GEW) is a German trade union for education and science, organized within the Deutscher Gewerkschaftsbund (DGB). GEW represents roughly 280,000 members working in pedagogical and scientific professions across schools, daycare (Kita), higher education, vocational training, adult education and other educational institutions. The union advocates for working conditions, collective bargaining and fair pay, campaigns on education policy (including full-day schooling and digital education), equality and professional concerns for educators, researchers and students, and negotiates and supports implementation of sectoral collective agreements.
