Registro pubblico delle opposizioni (RPO) is an Italian public service that allows citizens, businesses, associations and other contract holders to register their telephone numbers (fixed or mobile) and postal addresses to oppose the use of those contacts for marketing calls, texts or direct-mail advertising and market research. The service is free for citizens and provides operators (telemarketing and direct-mail marketers) with a registration and consultation area so they can check contact lists against the registry. Registration, renewal, selective revocation and cancellation are available via web form, telephone and email; operators must register to consult lists. The RPO is an institutional consumer-protection service aimed at reducing unwanted marketing contacts.
