About

The South African Astronomical Observatory (SAAO) is South Africa's national optical and infrared astronomy centre. SAAO operates world-class telescopes and observational facilities (including the Southern African Large Telescope) for astronomical research, provides instrumentation and technical support, hosts educational and public outreach programs, and offers student research opportunities (MSc/PhD projects and bursaries). It runs visitor centres, night tours and public events to engage communities and supports national research initiatives in collaboration with the National Research Foundation.
