Understanding Animal Research (UAR) is a UK-based not-for-profit advocacy and public information organisation that explains how and why animals are used in biomedical, veterinary and environmental scientific research. Funded by a membership of life science organisations, universities, research institutions, funders, charities, pharmaceutical companies, learned societies and government agencies, UAR publishes news, resources, statistics and educational materials, runs events (including an Openness in Animal Research Conference) and promotes transparency and laboratory animal welfare in the UK research sector.
